France and the UK stated that they are determined to work together within the framework of the European energy policy in order to ensure a more transparent legislation on the internal energy market, to secure the energy supply and to combat global warming.
Another goal of the Franco-British commitment is to work together on the development of an external part of the European foreign energy policy. France and the UK call for enhanced and more effective dialogues between the EU and major energy producing regions, such as Russia, Algeria, the Middle East, and countries that energy is transported through, such as Ukraine and Turkey.
To achieve this, France and the UK propose to set up a high level group at the European level, which can meet on an ad hoc basis. This group would monitor the energy situation and should be provided with all necessary information in order to react rapidly in the event of a crisis.
France and the UK also agreed to establish a Franco-British Nuclear Forum, which will explore and develop the opportunities of working together in the nuclear field. In the Forum, representatives from government, industry and technical experts will discuss Franco-British cooperation in research, skills, decommissioning and waste management.
