Alternative energy exchange index launched

Last week the German Exchange in Frankfurt has introduced the DAXglobal® Alternative Energy Index. The index tracks the performance of the world’s fifteen largest companies from five sectors: natural gas, wind, solar, ethanol and geothermal power/hybrid propulsion/batteries.

All five sectors are weighted equally. The index will be used as a basis for financial products. The ‘Deutsche Börse’ claims it is the first sector index concept to venture into the alternative energies sector on a global level.

Among the companies are REpower, Vestas and Gamesa (wind), Tokuyama and Solarworld (solar), BP (natural gas), Headwaters (ethanol) and Avista.
