The cooperation was founded in June 2004 by Germany and Spain at the Renewables Conference in Bonn. The cooperation is aiming to support the promotion of renewable energy sources in countries with a feed-in system for this purpose. At present, 18 EU member states use this policy instrument.
Within the cooperation, Germany, Spain and Slovenia exchange experiences in order to increase the share of renewable energy sources in the generation of electricity, to increase investor security, and decrease the costs for renewable energy.
Recently the International Feed-In Cooperation organised some workshops to improve the existing systems and also launched several research projects. One of the studies compared the German and the Spanish feed-in tariffs. Another study evaluated the feed-in tariff systems on their effectiveness and efficiency. In the latest study, different design options for feed-in tariff systems were analysed and evaluated.
