In Brief

Agenda

New Turkish energy efficiency law
A newly installed Energy Efficiency Coordination Board will coordinate and monitor all activities under the new Turkish energy efficiency law covering buildings, energy sector, industry and transportation. The law, including a support system, was legislated last week.

In the coming years the Board, consisting of representatives from all relevant departments, will prepare and execute energy efficiency strategies. Energy efficiency services, provides by separate, certified companies (ESCOs) will be an important part in the Turkish energy policy. These ESCOs will also perform activities regarding training.

Subsidies are available for energy efficiency measures. Projects that are approved by the Board and with an investment less that about 250,000 Euros shall be subsidised with maximum 20% of their total project value. Facilities voluntarily achieving an energy consumption reduction of at least 10% on average in three years can have 20% of their total energy costs (not exceeding 50,000 Euros) compensated for.
