Large PV project in Portugal
Recently an 11 MW solar cell plant in Serpa, Portugal officially came into use. The project of 52,000 photovoltaic panels covers an area of 60 hectare. It was set up by a consortium of GE, PowerLight Corp. and Catavento SA SERPA.

The project took eight months of construction and testing. The facility integrates clean power generation with agriculture. It is located in one of Europe's sunniest areas, in Portugal's Alentejo agricultural region in the town of Serpa, 200 kilometers southeast of Lisbon. The plant uses systems that follow the sun's daily path across the sky to optimize the power yield. Portuguese renewable energy company Catavento developed and manages the project, which was financed by GE Energy Financial Services. Powerlight provided the PV systems.
