First Vattenfall published
the take-over of Sweden Offshore ASB from the German companies of
WPD offshore and Windprojekt and of Östersjöns Vindkrafts from Fred
Olsen. These acquisitions, valued at about 100 million SEK (around
9 million €), are expected to result in the largest wind farm (500
to 640 MW) in northern Europe. The farm will be located in Kriegers
Flak, between Sweden and Germany and will consist of 100 to 150
turbines. Vattenfall hopes to start construction in 2009 and be
on-grid in 2010. The total investment will be some 8 billion SEK
(almost 900 million €).
Second, the firm concluded
its takeover battle by reaching an agreement with Danish power company
Dong about the acquisition of CHP and wind capacity, once owned
by power companies Elsam and Energi E2. “Our move into the CHP and
wind power sectors in Denmark represents an important strategic
investment in our Nordic operations”, Vattenfall’s CEO Lars Joseffson
said. He pointed out that the structure ensures the continuation
of Vattenfall’s interest in sustainable energy. For instance, Vattenfall
will now own 60 % of Horns Rev, an offshore wind farm in Denmark.
The agreement will have to be approved by several institutions and
authorities.
