In practice, companies have
to know their way to purchase carbon credits at a low price.
JI (Joint implementation)
of CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) are so-called Kyoto Mechanisms,
which enable countries (and in the end also companies) to execute
projects abroad and be awarded with carbon credits. In the next
few years the ‘Linking Directive’ of the European Commission will
allow companies to import carbons credits from elsewhere.
A recently published report
by GreenPrices Publishing shows that in general the risk of a JI
(Joint implementation) of CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) project
increases along with the potential profit because of the low price
of CO 2 -credits obtained. Nevertheless, decreasing transaction
costs will in the near future attract project developers from everywhere.
The report ‘Opportunities of JI/CDM; Experiences and lessons learned’
estimates that already in the next few years the JI/CDM market will
amount to some 200 million € a year.
The report describes the
chances and pitfalls, the procedures and potential profits from
JI/CDM projects.
‘Opportunities of JI/CDM;
Experiences and lessons learned’ (July 2005), price € 885 (ex VAT).
