High Level Group on competitiveness, energy and environmentIn the kick-off meeting the High Level Group (HLG) on competitiveness,
energy and environment reached agreement on the working methods and the
subjects to be prepared for the next meeting. The HLG was set up by the
European Commission in October 2005. The group explores ways to unleash
the growth potential of basic and intermediate product industries by further

more JREC declaration: further action needed on renewable energyIn a joint declaration on renewable energy, the ministers of the Johannesburg Renewable Energy Coalition (JREC) repeated the importance of further actions on renewable energy to be taken by the global community. JREC adopted this statement during the last meeting in Dubai in February. More specifically, the JREC ministers urge the Commission for Sustainable Development (CSD) of the UN to establish an efficient arrangement to review and assess progress towards the global increase of renewable energies.
