New EU law to cut in energy use
On 17 May a new EU law on end-use energy efficiency and energy services will come into force. This Directive aims to cut energy use by 9% over business-as-usual in the period from 2008 to 2017. EU Member States must transpose the EU Directive into national law and set up a series of energy efficiency action plans. Read

UK launches biomass energy action plan
The UK Government has launched an action plan for greater use of biomass energy. The plan outlines how energy from crops, trees and waste can make a strong contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Read

IPCC prepares Special Report on Renewable Energy Sources
The IPCC agreed to hold a scoping meeting in late 2007 to prepare a Special Report on Renewable Energy Sources. The German Government presented the proposal for the Special Report and will host the scoping meeting. Read
