EU ETS over allocation decreased to 1.2%

The current status of verified emissions data in the EU Community Independent Transaction Log (CITL) shows that with data available so far, actual emissions from installations in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) in 2006 were 1.2% less than the total of their corresponding emissions allocations. “Billions of people are at risk” from climate change

For the first time, the global scientific community confirmed that climate change is happening, both on a global and on a regional level. “Even if we agree on mitigation of climate change, we have to adapt to address impacts of warming already happening”, said Martin Parry, co-chair of the second Working Group, contributing to this year’s assessment of climate change by the Intergovernental Panel on Climate Change IPCC. “Millions, actually up to billions of people are at risk.”  Read more (subscription required) image

IPCC-report driver for renewable energy

Last Friday, the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group II published the summary of its fourth Assessment Report, in which it concluded that billions of people are at risk. New map shows solar electricity potential of European regions

A new map published by the European Commission shows the photovoltaic solar energy potential of different parts of Europe. It shows that an identical solar system will generate twice the amount of energy in southern, sunnier areas of Europe, such as Malta and Southern Spain, than in more northerly areas such as Scotland or Northern Scandinavia. Interactive maps are valuable tools as the EU seeks to increase the share of renewables in overall energy consumption to 20% in 2020.  Read more image

Spain goes for gold in solar 

Two recent big events have put Spain again as top seed in the solar energy market. Last month two major solar plants have been inaugurated: the PV plant Huerta Solar de Monte Alto, in the Milagro municipality, Navarra, and the first of the solar plants of the Solucar la Mayor project in Sevilla.  Read more image
