Cogeneration
Cogeneration (combined heat and power, CHP) is the production of useful heat and power at the same time. This in contrast to conventional power production, where heat is thrown away with the cooling-water.
With cogeneration, heat is being used for district heating, or in industry for production processes. So cogeneration uses primary energy in a more efficient way. The energy saving with cogeneration can amount to 20 to 30% compared to the separate production of heat and electricity, thus contributing to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.
